Bhopal’s Dr. Purnima Tiwari Makes History as the First Indian to Win Mrs. Universe Ambassador 2026
Some achievements belong to a whole city. On the stage of the 49th Mrs. Universe pageant in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Dr. Purnima Tiwari of Bhopal became the first Indian ever to be crowned Mrs. Universe Ambassador 2026. A woman from Bhopal stood in front of the world and brought home a title no Indian had won before.
A doctor first, a queen because of who she is
Before the crown, there is the doctor. Dr. Purnima Tiwari is a gynecologist, obstetrician and IVF specialist whose training reads like a map of the world’s best medical institutions. She completed her MBBS at Lady Hardinge Medical College and her MS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Maulana Azad Medical College, both in New Delhi, followed by DNB and the MRCOG from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the United Kingdom. She holds a Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine, a Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery and a Diploma in Advanced Reproductive Technology, and has trained in laparoscopic surgery at Seoul National University in South Korea, Vienna General Hospital in Austria and Policlinico San Matteo in Italy.
The road to the crown
This win did not come overnight. Earlier in 2026 she was crowned Mrs. Indo Asia Universe, and that victory carried her to the Mrs. Universe stage in Colombo. Balancing a demanding medical practice with the discipline of a global pageant is something very few people attempt, and fewer still succeed.
A title with a purpose

Dr. Tiwari has made women’s health awareness, breaking the social stigma around infertility and women’s empowerment the heart of her platform.
